Piecewise affine (PWA) systems have been used extensively in the study of hybrid and nonlinear systems, particularly in the context of mechanical systems. A comprehensive overview of various research findings regarding the control and estimation of piecewise algebraic systems can be found in Control and Estimation of Piecewise Affine Systems.
